Max Deutsch

Max Deutsch (17 November 1892, in Vienna – 22 November 1982, in Paris) was an Austrian-French composer, conductor, and teacher.
He was a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg and founded the theater ''Der Jüdische Spiegel'' (''The Jewish Mirror'') in Paris. Here, many works of composers like Schoenberg, Anton Webern, or Alban Berg were debuted in France. From 1940 to 1945, Deutsch served in the French Foreign Legion. In Paris, his students included the composers Philippe Capdenat, György Kurtág and Luis de Pablo, the music critic Heinz-Klaus Metzger, the Canadian-born Srul Irving Glick, the Italian Sylvano Bussotti, and the American composers David Chaitkin, Donald Harris, Eugene Kurtz, and Allen Shearer.
